Ranchi Angara Tragic Crash: Auto-Rickshaw vs Truck — 4 Family Members Dead, 1 Critically Injured

Four members of a family were killed and one woman critically injured in a head-on collision between a truck and an auto-rickshaw in Ranchi’s Angara. Police launch hunt for absconding truck driver.

Ranchi, Jharkhand | August 14, 2025 – In a devastating road accident on Wednesday night, four members of a family lost their lives and one woman sustained critical injuries when an auto-rickshaw and a truck collided head-on in Angara, Ranchi. The tragic incident took place near Chamghatti on the busy Ranchi–Purulia road.

How the Accident Happened

According to police officials, the auto-rickshaw was traveling from Jhalda to Ranchi when a truck coming from Ranchi towards Muri rammed into it at high speed. The impact was so severe that the truck overturned immediately after the collision.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the truck driver lost control of the vehicle before the crash. He fled the scene after the accident, and efforts are underway to trace him.

Victims and Injuries

The deceased have been identified as:

  • Sheikh Gayasuddin – Auto-rickshaw driver
  • Ayesha Khatun – Mother of the driver
  • Joraddin – Wife of the driver
  • Sheikh Aman – Son of the driver

All four died on the spot. Another woman, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, suffered severe injuries and was rushed to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, where her condition remains critical.

Police Action

Local police reached the spot immediately after being informed by villagers. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities have launched a search operation to nab the absconding truck driver.

Witness Accounts

Eyewitnesses described the collision as “horrific” and said the truck was moving at an “uncontrolled speed” before hitting the auto. Many locals gathered at the scene, some helping to rescue the injured woman before the arrival of police and ambulances.

Increasing Road Mishaps in Ranchi

The Angara incident comes amid a worrying rise in fatal road accidents in Jharkhand, with the Ranchi–Purulia stretch identified as a high-risk route due to speeding vehicles and lack of adequate traffic monitoring. Authorities are being urged to install speed cameras and enforce stricter safety measures.
